The Marmore Falls is regulated by a dam with specific opening and closing times during the day. When the waterfall is open, the Nera River reaches a flow rate of 14 cubic meters per second, ideal for class 4 rafting and hydrospeed. When the waterfall is closed, the flow rate drops to 1 meter per second, the perfect moment to practice the River Adventure: a guided descent between the natural pools that form on the river bed in an atmosphere of total peace and harmony.

The requirements to do River Adventure

To carry out this activity there are no special requirements and you don’t need to know how to swim.

The practice of River adventure, also known as River Trekking, is not barred to anyone. This activity is suitable for everyone, from the little ones to those who don’t trust Mother Nature so blindly or don’t like adrenaline and risk. A walk between woods and rocks, between shade and sun, between water and dirt paths: a real breath of pure, clear air immersed in spectacular scenery.

Description of the activity

Once you reach your destination at the Rafting Center reception, you will be equipped with everything you need and you will participate in a theoretical-practical lesson with our guides who will show you all the steps and the most important notions to know! The activity consists of a guided descent of the Nera river pools. Accompanied by expert guides, it will be possible to discover the wonders of the park and the waterfalls from another point of view. Equipped with safety helmets, life jackets and special shoes, guests will be able to experience sensational emotions while walking on the river bed.

The equipment for the River Adventure

You have to wear the neoprene wetsuit, the neoprene shoes, the water jacket provided by the organization and after having followed the theoretical and practical lesson that precedes the descent, we finish dressing by wearing the “life jacket” buoyancy aid and the helmet, we reach the boarding point by our means located right below the Marmore Waterfall, the highest in Europe, in Umbria, almost at the end of the Valnerina, the long valley carved out by the Nera river. An idyllic place surrounded by nature that will take you back in time.

What should I bring ?

For all activities you need a not too bulky swinsuit, a t-shirt and socks; better if they are synthetic or technical socks (Especially in the cold months the cotton is too cold); than you need the stuff for a shower, a towel, slippers and soap or shampoo; in the locker room there are showers and hair dryers.

What do we supply?

All the technical equipement to do the activity; only for the River Walking or Torrentismo-Canyoning you need to wear a pair of shoes with a sturdy sole that can be wet, better if they protect also the ankles.

Where do I leave my personal effects?

Inside the locker rooms you will find lockers that can be closed by means of personal lock; than the key can be worn on the neck with a rope as a necklace. If you forget the lock, do not worry, we’ll give you one against a deposit that will be refunded at the end of the activity.

How do we move?

Except for Canyoning where you need to use your own car to get to the place near the gorges, for all other activities the going and back transportations are carried out by means of the minibuses of Centro Rafting le Marmore.

Where do we park?

Very close to both rafting centers (Papigno and Arrone) there are free parkings where cars and campervans may be parked. Inside rafting centers parking is not allowed except for a few moto-scooters or bikes.

May children under 18 years of age take part in hydrospeed or hard rafting?

No, they may do soft rafting, tubing, river walking or basic canyoning.

This is my first time. I fulfill all requirements. May I take part in hard rafting below the Marmore waterfalls?

Yes, our activities are conceived even for beginners. A theorical and practical explanation is always provided.
For all activities carried on under the Marmore waterfall at Papigno, participants are requested to be able to swim, to be in good health, to weight less than 100 kg, to be between 18 and 55 years of age; for Hydrospeed there is no weight limit and River Walking is allowed to people between 16 and 60 years of age.

Do I get wet?

How do you organize groups on rafts?

Sometimes on rafts groups are divided by the responsible for security either to grant safety on the river or for logistical reasons, althoug definitively we try to keep the groups undivided.

Why do you say we need two hours and a half for the whole activity if we stay in the water only 50 minutes?

What do you mean by saying rafting + rafting?

Rafting + Rafting is an offer giving you the possibility to practice rafting twice in the same day with 10 euro discount.

May I buy a seasonal voucher?

Yes, by bank money transfer; you only need to send an email to info@raftingmarmore.com.
The voucher has a digital format and expires in one year time.

Which is the best time to come?

Anytime is the best time, because our center is the only one that is not conditioned by the water level, which is controlled by the electric plant of Piediluco Lake; the water level is therefore always the same.
Even when ir rains there is no problem.

Should it rain, what happens?

We do the activity anyway; we have a huge rafting center where we can welcome everyone for a warm shower and a bar for a tasteful snack.

How many of us to take part in activities?

You do not need to be a multiple of 6; even if you’re alone, you can book during the week before your date, calling phone no. +39 330753420 or no. +39 366 2045118; we will organize the group for you.
If your group is made of more than 6 people, the group will be splitted on more rafts that will go down at the same time.

I am not a perfect swimmer. May I do rafting?

To take part in rafting downstream the waterfall, you do not need to swim perfectly the styles, but you need to swim well.
You need not be afraid to go with your head under the water and be able to swim at ease in the sea waves.

What shall I bring with me?

We supply all technical equipment: wetsuit, shoes, jacket, helmet and buoyancy aid (life jacket).
You have to bring a swimsuit / t-shirt and shorts, all you need to take a shower, socks.

How are activities organized? May I know your timetable?

Soft rafting has a more flexible schedule, while for Papigno activities under the Marmore Waterfalls the timetable is extremely rigorous, since it is bound to the opening times of the waterfall.
Marmore waterfall, in fact, has an artificial water release connected with the hydroelectric plant.
That is the reason why on Marmore Waterfall site you find the opening hours of the water.
As rafting center we are forced by those opening hours because rafting can be done only when the water of the waterfall is open.
Usually in the mornign the appointments are 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m., while in the afternoon at 2.00 pm and then to follow every hour.
